Take a virtual vacation to the 1600's and visit Shakespeare's Globe. You can look all around and learn all sorts of fun facts. Did you know the Globe is the first building in London built with a thatched roof since 1666? What happened to the OG or Original Globe? ACT 3 Act 3 Scene 1(Video Summary) + Viola goes to see Olivia again. She enjoys word play with the Fool on her way. + Olivia speaks to Cesario privately, and confesses her love. + Viola tries to be polite but has to set down Olivia harshly. Act 3 Scene 2 (Video Summary) + Sir Andrew saw Olivia's feelings towards Cesario. A very upsetting moment for him. + Sir Toby convinces him that the only way to win Olivia affection now is to fight Cesario. He runs off to write a letter to Cesario challenging him in a fight. + Maria enters, and says their prank upon Malvolio is about to come to fruition. Act 3 Scene 3 (Video Summary) + Antonio has followed Sebastian to Illyria even though it is a risk to his safety. + Sebastian wants to be a tourist, so Antonio gives him his wallet and all his money. Act 3 Scene 4 (Video Summary) + Olivia is planning on how to woo Cesario. In a sober mood she calls for Malvolio, her sober servant. ++ However, Malvolio appears in yellow socks, smiling and cheerful. Following exactly the orders of the letter he found in the garden. His comments quoting the letter make no sense to Olivia, who of course, has no idea what he is taking about. + Olivia leaves to meet Cesario again and tells Sir Toby to watch over Malvolio. ++ Sir Toby plays with words and makes Malvolio out to be possessed, then orders him to be taken to a dark room and be tied up. + Sir Andrew enters with his fighting letter to Cesario. ++ Sir Toby reads the letter and decides that he must give Cesario a verbal challenge because the letter is not scary at all. + Olivia and Viola/Cesario re-enter. Olivia is still courting Cesario who will not have her. + Toby and Fabian go back and forth between Sir Andrew and Cesario trying to get them to fight each other. Neither Sir Andrew or Cesario really want to fight, but they each believe the other means to kill them. ++ As they start to fight, Antonio enters. He defends Cesario, mistaking him for Sebastian. + Two officers enter and recognizing Antonio arrest him. Antonio begs "Sebastian" for his wallet back, since he'll need bail money. However, Cesario doesn't have his wallet and is very confused. +The scene ends with Sir Andrew promising to follow Cesario and beat him up. While Viola wonders if her brother might possibly be alive.

Do you think she'll run into her brother? Act 2 Scene 2: On the road(Video Summary) + Malvolio delivers a ring to Cesario. + Viola realizes that Olivia has fallen in love with Cesario. Viola pities Olivia, even as she sees the similarities between them: Orphans, dead brothers, and loving someone impossibly. * Viola ends the scene saying Time must solve this love triangle because it is too complex for her to solve alone. How do you think it will be resolved? Act 2 Scene 3: At Lady Olivia's House (Video Summary) + Toby, Andrew and the Fool are having a late night party, with music and wine. + Malvolio comes to shut down the party, but they pay him no heed. + To punish Malvolio for his nosiness and bossiness, Maria comes up with a trick to play on Malvolio. * "Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale?" Malvolio is trying to make others live by the rules he lives by. Can you think of any modern examples of this? Act 2 Scene 4: Orsino's Palace (Video Summary) + Orsino and Cesario are relaxing at his palace and listen to the Fool playing a song. + Orsino expresses his thoughts on love and relationships. (Orsino's opinions reflect the sexist standards of Elizabethan culture.) + In the end, Orsino sends Cesario again to woo Olivia. * Viola almost reveals to Orsino that she is a woman dressed as a man. Should she have told him? What might of happened if she did? Act 2 Scene 5: Olivia's Garden (Video Summary) + Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and Fabian hide in the garden to watch Malvolio. Maria has dropped a letter to deceive him. + Malvolio wanders the garden daydreaming about marrying Olivia and bossing around Sir Toby. Then he finds the letter. He believes it is from Olivia. The letter contains a riddle and confusing language that seem to imply that Olivia loves someone but can't say who. + Malvolio decides to follow the orders of the letter, dressing out of style, smiling and being mean to servants, to prove to Olivia that he loves her too. * What is your opinion on Maria's trick? The jokester and the uptight servant. + Olivia meets with Cesario, and promptly falls in love with "him". Characters:

These are the driving forces of all plays (and stories). Characters want something (their Objective) and there is something in their way (their Obstacle). Without these two forces there is no action, purpose or drama to a story. We'll use Flipgrid to have a conversation about characters Objectives and Obstacles. Today we started our design unit. It will go until April 10th. Essential Question: How do designers create worlds from words on a page? The Plan: 1. Read the play Twelfth Night 2. Learn about all the design fields 3. Work together to create a design for Twelfth Night 4. Present your design to the class. Areas to be covered: Design fields - Sound, Set, Costumes, Lights, Stage Management Shakespeare - Elizabethan Era Theatre - Iambic Pentameter Team work - Working together - Communication Presentation Skills - Verbal explanations - Justify your choices Learning Targets: - Students will be able to work together as a team in order to create a cohesive design for Twelfth Night. - Students will be able to use clear & concise text evidence in order justify their design choices. - Students will feel comfortable expressing themselves and their ideas with their peers in order to communicate effectively.
